CHICAGO — Education never stops for those who are experts in their fields. Professional writers Laurel Kashinn and Nathan Fischer of Write Stuff Resources in Glendale, Wisconsin each earned 10 continuing education credits (CEUs) attending workshops at the National Resume Writers Association national convention in Chicago, September 18-20.

“We’ve brought back a wealth of helpful information which we’ll be able to use immediately to help our clients in achieving their career goals,” said Kashinn, a writer with more than 15 years of experience crafting professional resumes for all kinds of clients, and founder of Write Stuff Resources.

“We are a culture stuck in fast forward,” said Richard Feller, PhD, of the National Career Development Association and Colorado State University, setting the tone at the opening keynote, “where the the prize goes not to what you know, but how quickly you can innovate.” Feller, key advisor to the AARP’s new Life Reimagined initiative, advises job seekers who feel overwhelmed to hire a technology tutor if needed. In today’s and tomorrow’s world, Feller said, “there are only two kinds of workers: owners and temps.” Successful careerists adopt the mindset that every job is a type of paid internship in which one can develop their own competencies. Having this point of view gives one a sense of autonomy, mastery and purpose.  The task of professional resume writers and career coaches, he said, is to help careerists “be better than average, because average is officially over.”

Courses attended by Kashinn and Fischer include Five Steps to Build the Ultimate LinkedIn Profile and the Law of Attraction; Resumes for Leaders and Volunteer LeadersBrand Yourself Online® with Kirsten Vernon;  Challenges of the Military Client; Bios & LinkedIn Profiles for Businesses; Creating Effective Federal Resumes; Helping Millenials Establish Their Brands; Move from Being Stuck to Kick-Butt; SEO for Your Business; Solving Tough Resume Problems with Strategic Formatting; and Leveraging Social Media to Stretch Your Brand and Get Found Faster.
